Analytical services

The analytical determinations are performed using mainly capillary electrophoresis, since it is a high-efficient, fast and cost-effective new separation method, which requires only a minute amount of sample for the analysis. The capillary electrophoresis has numerous advantages over the other separation techniques like HPLC, GC concerning the accessible maximum plate number, resolution, analysis time, cost of operation, consumption of reagents and chemicals, possibilities to automate. The capillary electrophoresis was proved to be useful for solving the different analytical problems of pharmaceutical and food industry, clinical and diagnostical investigations.

Microfluidics

The goal of microfluidics is that through micro- and nanofabrication it will be possible to prepare integrated laboratories of a size equivalent to a computer chip. The universal drive towards miniaturisation has had its innovative impact in capillary electrophoresis and chromatography and considerable research efforts are currently being invested in developing and exploiting microchip devices. In our research we design and create plastic microchips in which separations of pikoliter samples are performed within one minute using minimal reagents.

Medicinal plant biology

In our research on medicinal plant biology, we examine metabolite production of commercially available medicinal plants and analyze their bioactive constituents and culture in in vitro tissue cultures. Once the metabolite analysis of these tissue cultures is complete, we identify the factors affecting in vitro production of special metabolites. Our goals to develope high-yielding, maintainable cell lines and maximalizing metabolite production by means of elicitation and examination of genes responsible for metabolism.
